DJ Ginge was born in Harlow, Essex, and later moved to Cambridgeshire. Music has been part of her life from the very beginning, and she grew up with a strong passion for sound, rhythm, and creativity.
She took multiple private music lessons, learning to play instruments including drums, flute, violin, and guitar. Although she always loved music, she often found playing traditional instruments difficult. It was when she discovered DJing that she found a new way to express herself through music.
Her love for Drum & Bass was heavily influenced by her family, but she began exploring it more seriously around the age of 16 while she was at college. DJ Ginge is a Drum & Bass head who loves Jump Up with a slight twist. Although she can play multi-genre, Drum & Bass is her main preference.
As someone with autism, Ginge found that the high-energy sound of Jump Up Drum & Bass suited her personality and energy perfectly. She learned to mix on six decks at the age of 20 and still continues to use six decks whenever she can.
Ginge has performed at major platforms and events including Next Hype, Ministry of Sound, Rough Tempo, and Innovation. At the age of 19, she had the pleasure of opening for Turno on his DNA Tour, and at 21 she performed alongside Eksman and Dreps.
Her health has had a huge impact on what she could do for work, forcing her to rethink her options and what she wanted from life. Once she started college, she knew that her future was in DJing and music production.
DJ Ginge’s first opportunity came while she was at college, when she was scouted by promoters looking for DJs for an event in Peterborough. She had just turned 18, and the headline acts were Magistrate and Dreps.
Although she had no idea what she was stepping into at the time, it became a brilliant experience that opened new doors. From that first gig, Ginge made strong connections with DJs and MCs, many of whom she still works with today.
She was shown mixing techniques by a close friend, learning more about Drum & Bass and its sub-genres including Jump Up, Rollers, and Liquid. Through this, she found the style she enjoyed mixing the most.
Her first radio appearance was on Rough Tempo, playing on Tripsta’s Tuesday show. Many more followed, including appearances on Jumped Up Audio, Rough Tempo, Intense Flavours, Bellyman’s show on Origin, and Code Red.
In terms of events, DJ Ginge has played for Detonation multiple times, as well as Xcentric Events, Skirmish, and many other events up and down the country. She now holds a residency with Skirmish, something she is extremely grateful for.
DJ Ginge continues to grow as an artist, bringing energy, passion, and her own unique twist to Drum & Bass every time she steps behind the decks.
